Civil Rights and Fair Housing
The Texas Workforce Commission ("TWC") is the entity responsible for enforcing the Fair Housing Act in the State of Texas. You have one year after an alleged violation to file a complaint, but you should file it as soon as possible. Go to https://www.twc.texas.gov/programs/civil-rights to file a complaint.

CITY OF ALVARADO has received a Community Development Block Grant - Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) Method of Distribution (MOD) contract under the Texas General Land Office (GLO). The CITY OF ALVARADO will comply with the Civil Rights requirements of Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act and the Fair Housing Law and ensure that equal opportunities are afforded to all persons and that no person shall be excluded or denied program benefits on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, and national origin. PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: FAIR HOUSING, IT’S THE LAW
To promote fair housing practices, the CITY OF ALVARADO encourages potential homeowners and renters to be aware of their rights under the National Fair Housing Law. Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, as amended, prohibits discrimination against any person on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status or national origin in the sale or rental of units in the housing market. POLICY OF NONDISCRIMINATION ON THE BASIS OF DISABILITY
The CITY OF ALVARADO does not discriminate on the basis of disability in the admission or access to, or treatment or employment in, its federally assisted programs or activities. Jacob Wheat, Mayor of the CITY OF ALVARADO, has been designated to coordinate compliance with the nondiscrimination requirements contained in the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regulations implementing Section 504 (24 CFR Part 8. Date June, 1988).
CITIZEN PARTICIPATION & GRIEVANCE PROCEDURES NOTICE FOR THE GLO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT-MIT MOD PROGRAM
CITY OF ALVARADO has adopted complaint and grievance procedures regarding its Community Development Block Grant Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) MOD Program. Citizens may obtain a Copy of these written procedures from the Mayor, Jacob Wheat at the CITY OF ALVARADO City Hall located at 104 West College Street, Alvarado, TX 76009, or by calling 817-790-3351, during regular business hours. These procedures outline the steps for a citizen to follow if he/she wishes to file a complaint or grievance about GLO CDBG-MIT MOD activities. A person who has a complaint or grievance about any services or activities with respect to the GLO CDBG-MIT MOD project may, during regular business hours, submit such complaint or grievance, in writing to Jacob Wheat at the CITY OF ALVARADO City Hall located at 104 West College Street, Alvarado, TX 76009, or by calling 817-790-3351. The CITY OF ALVARADO will make every effort to respond fully to such complaints or grievances within fifteen (15) working days where practicable after receipt of the original complaint or grievance.
